Gerard Dougherty - Helping Retirees with Financial Planning
A financial advisor from Boston, Massachusetts, Gerard (Gerry) Dougherty has helped clients with planning for retirement since becoming president of Boston Independence Group, Inc. After more than a decade as a financial advisor, Gerard Dougherty has also authored books and hosted a money-management radio program.
Gerry Dougherty began his career in the mid-1980s as a financial advisor on a range of topics. He eventually climbed the ranks, becoming a manager and then an executive manager. He worked in this role for more than 20 years until one event changed his life.
The Great Recession of 2008 became a turning point, as Mr. Dougherty witnessed first-hand the impact of the recession on clients approaching or already in retirement. Many watched as their nest eggs dwindled or were completely lost. This inspired him to focus on helping clients with retirement-related financial planning issues.
Gerard Dougherty subsequently took this knowledge and used it as a platform to write Uncomplicated Money, a book giving retirees guidance on how to protect their wealth. He also contributed to the Kiplinger.com Wealth Creation section. In addition, he hosts Making Money Last, carried on WCRN AM 830 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
